• Stay in a medical facility for three days after the birth of the child. 

Important! The cost of additional examinations during pregnancy is about 700 HK. per visit, and each additional day of hospital stay will cost 3,300 HK dollars. Please note that these prices apply to women who are registered with the mother and Child Health Center in the early stages of pregnancy.

Among expats, the most popular are private clinics that have English-speaking staff that offer an individual approach to each patient. As a rule, a woman independently chooses an obstetrician-gynecologist, who recommends a medical institution to accompany pregnancy and the birth of a child. 

Within the framework of private insurance programs, the patient is accompanied by one doctor throughout her pregnancy. Just like it is in public - within the framework of private insurance programs, it is necessary to register in the antenatal clinic of the chosen medical institution in the early stages of pregnancy. 

When applying for a policy, it should be taken into account that insurance programs, as a rule, don’t include prenatal observation, examination and ultrasound. Therefore, you should first check what procedures are provided for in the insurance program.

As a rule, private insurance programs cover such risks/services as:

• Prenatal / postnatal care;
• Assistance during childbirth;
• Planned caesarean section for medical reasons;
• Emergency caesarean section;

Aborts in Hong Kong. 

Termination of pregnancy in Hong Kong is allowed for up to 24 weeks in the presence of the following circumstances: 

• Continuing pregnancy is associated with a risk to a woman's life or a risk to her physical/mental health;
• Serious abnormalities in fetal development.
