Any foreigner who wishes to stay in Iraq for longer than the period of time specified in his/her visa must obtain a residence permit from the Residence Officer for a period not exceeding one year prior to the expiration of the visa period.
—
Is it possible to extend a temporary residence permit?
One month before the expiration of a residence permit, a foreigner can apply to an official for an extension of the period of stay for the next year. This procedure can be repeated several times.
—
The Minister may refuse to issue or extend a residence permit to a foreigner under special circumstances, and the foreigner may, within 15 days from the date of notification, object to such a refusal of the Minister's decision.
A foreigner must present a residence permit to an officer before leaving Iraq. The residence commissioner in the governorate centers, each according to his jurisdiction, undertakes to provide the departing foreigner with what he/she confirms.
—
However, we advise you to contact the nearest Iraqi Embassy/Consulate for exact information regarding the residence permit in Iraq.
