Looking for a job in Kenya, you keep in mind that a person who has a single or multiple tourist or business visa (valid for 3 months) has no right for employment in Kenya. If you want to get special permission, you must contact the Immigration Office and submit the necessary documents. At first applicants for a work permit must submit a completed and signed form 3 application, which can be downloaded from the Immigration Office's website. Work / residence visas are for people who need to spend more than six months in Kenya and who want to work, live or volunteer in that country. Employers or charitable partners usually make efforts to submit such applications on behalf of their employees and partners. However, you can apply yourself. As a rule, potential emigrants apply for a work / type visa before arriving in Kenya.
Entry permits are issued to all foreigners who plan to work in Kenya, whether it’s a paid work or volunteer.
Entry permits are classified from A to M. You pay an annual fee depending on the type of permitin the amount of 2,000 KEN shilling ($ 20) to 100,000 KEN shilling ($ 1,000).
In Kenya, an entry permit is issued by the director of the immigration service to allow foreigners to enter Kenya and engage in trade, agriculture, business, professional work, missionary work or even living in Kenya.
How to apply for a work permit?
To apply for a work permit, you must complete the following steps:
- Create Account to log in to the Government of Kenya;
- Log in using the account created above to access the eFNS portal.
- After logging in to the eFNS portal, select the link "Apply Now".
- Click on the tab "Submit Applications" and select the tab "Issue / Renew Permit".
- Print the required application form by clicking the Toolbar and then the tab My Programs.
- Submit your application with all requirements to the Immigration Headquarters (Nyayo House) for processing;
You will receive automatic e-mail notifications about the progress of your application.
You should keep in mind that getting a visa is only one part of the process. After arriving in Kenya, anyway you will need to register in the immigration department or local police. You must do this within three months. This rule applies to all adult foreigners who plan to stay in the country for more than 90 days.
Except visiting the relevant authorities, you must also present valid travel documents and identity cards, two passport-size photographs and a registration fee. You will have to do fingerprints during this visit.
Remember that all work permits are valid for two years with the possibility of renewal for another two years. Your employees may renew their work permit an unlimited number of times, but they must do it not less than three months before the permit expires.
