Family reunification in Kosovo provides for the right of family members of Kosovo citizens and residents to obtain a temporary residence permit in the country for a period of 1 year. This right applies to foreign spouses and children.

To obtain a temporary residence permit for family reunification on the basis of marriage, a foreigner must provide the following documents:
- Copies of passports of family members who want to join;
- The marriage certificate;
- Birth certificate of children, in case of adoption - there must be evidence of establishing adoption, and in cases of establishing guardianship-evidence of establishing guardianship;
- A valid identity document of a citizen of the republic of Kosovo or a holder of a residence permit;
- Sufficient means of subsistence, which are confirmed by a bank statement, employment contract or other proof that the foreigner has sufficient means of subsistence;
- The proof of residence;
- A certificate of non-criminal record issued by the competent state body of which the foreigner is a citizen has been translated into one of the official languages of the republic of Kosovo;
- The health insurance;
- The confirmation of vaccination in cases when a foreigner arrives from a country where an epidemic situation has been declared;

In the case of applying for a temporary residence permit for the purpose of family reunification on the basis of cohabitation, a certificate of three-year cohabitation or a birth certificate is required if a common child was born;
A foreigner, in order to confirm cohabitation, must provide:
- The declaration of family union issued by the competent authority;
- The proof of shared residential address or any other proof that people lived together;
- A verification by the Commissioner for foreign affairs of the actual situation on the ground (in cases where it is assessed).
Who can get a permanent residence permit in the Republic of Kosovo?
- People who have a temporary residence permit in Kosovo and have continuously lived here for 5 years;
- People who are married to a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo or to a foreigner who has a permanent residence permit for three years;
- Minors who are temporarily staying in the Republic of Kosovo may apply for permanent residence if one parent is a foreigner with a permanent residence permit and the other parent has given their consent.

What documents are required for obtaining a permanent residence permit?
Main list of documents:
- Valid passport;
- The certificate that the applicant was not convicted of any offense by the court of the republic of Kosovo;
- The proof of marriage;
- A document confirming that the applicant is not under investigation by the Kosovo police;
- The confirmation of material opportunities for living;
- A health insurance;
- Housing certificates;
- A tax certificate issued no later than three months.
To obtain a permanent residence permit, a foreigner must also have a basic knowledge of one of the official languages of the Republic of Kosovo in writing and reading and not pose a threat to public order, state security and public health.
A foreign person may apply for citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo if, at the time of applying, it is established that he/she meets the following criteria:
- The person is of legal age;
- He/she has regularly resided in the republic of Kosovo for the past five years and has a valid residence permit;
- A person declares and proves by his / her behavior that he / she accepts the constitutional and legal order of the republic of Kosovo and that he / she is integrated into the society of the republic of Kosovo through social, cultural, scientific, economic or professional ties. The criteria will be established by bylaws issued by the Ministry of the Interior;
- A person has sufficient funds to finance his life and the lives of persons whom he is obliged to support by law, without resorting to social assistance schemes;
- The person has fulfilled all financial obligations to the state;
- The person provides proof of basic knowledge of one of the official languages of the republic of Kosovo.
Residence in the Republic of Kosovo is considered regular, even if the person resides outside the Republic of Kosovo for periods not exceeding three months. For periods exceeding three months, a permit issued by the Competent Authority is required.
The acquisition of citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo is carried out by decree of the president of the Republic of Kosovo.

What documents are required for obtaining citizenship?
- The birth certificate;
- The marriage certificate for married people;
- A document stating that the applicant has been a permanent resident of Kosovo for 5 years;
- The proof of fulfillment of the application of all financial obligations (certificates of the tax administration and the Municipal Property Tax Department on the fulfillment of tax obligations);
- The proof of proper housing for the applicant and his subordinates;
- The confirmation of basic knowledge of one of the state languages;
- A document confirming that the applicant is not in criminal proceedings and has not been convicted of any offences issued by the Competent Court of the Republic of Kosovo, the Kosovo police, or the Competent Authority of the foreign state of which the applicant is a citizen or where the applicant has been for the past 6 months;
- A valid identity document with a photo of the applicant;
- A written statement in which the applicant swears that he/she will comply with the laws applicable in Kosovo.
Payment of the administrative fee is 150 euros.
A foreign person who is married to a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo acquires citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo by his / her application, if at the time of application, it is established that he / she meets the following criteria:
- Has been married to a Kosovo citizen for at least three years;
- A person has been permanently residing in the Republic of Kosovo for the last year and has a valid residence permit.
