IMPORTANT!

All children under the age of 5 should be vaccinated with MMR (or measles and rubella);

Proof of vaccination must be presented upon arrival, otherwise entry will be denied.

Persons suffering from a communicable disease, as well as persons exposed to such a disease, may be isolated and quarantined in accordance with regulations promulgated pursuant to Chapter 7, Title 1, Section 106 of the Marshall Islands Public Health and Sanitation Code.

All visitors traveling to the Marshall Islands must have a valid passport valid for at least 6 months, sufficient funds for their stay, and a round-trip air or sea ticket.

(A) Citizens exempt from visa requirements

Citizens of the United States of America, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the European Union (EU), the People's Republic of China, and Taiwan.

(B) Citizens who are eligible for visitor visas upon arrival:

Citizens of countries that have diplomatic relations with the Republic of the Marshall Islands will be granted a visa on arrival (VOA) or a visa waiver (VW). The list of agreements and diplomatic relations is updated from time to time by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Please follow the link below to view the most up-to-date list of countries eligible for a) visa-free travel, b) visa-on-arrival, and c) visa exemptions for certain categories of passport holders.

(C) Citizens who must apply for a visa prior to arrival:

Citizens of ALL OTHER countries not listed above in paragraphs A or B must apply for a visa BEFORE entering the Republic.Visitor visa (V-1) requires a non-refundable application fee of $100.00 USD. Business visa (B-1) is intended for persons who have an approved license for doing business with foreign investment (FIBL), and requires a non-refundable application fee of $ 300.00 USD.

A check-out fee of $20.00 is required.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), does not usually serve as a general transit hub for international travelers. The country's main international airport is Amata Kabua International Airport (MAJ) on Majuro Atoll.

Transit visa

Depending on your nationality and the duration of your connection, you may or may not need a transit visa. It is important to check the visa requirements for transit passengers based on your specific circumstances.

For a transit visa:

This visa applies to foreigners wishing to enter the Marshall Islands for the purpose of further travel outside the country.

Duration of transplantation

Due to its remote location, the Marshall Islands may offer limited flight options and schedules. Make sure you have enough time between connecting flights to avoid potential travel disruptions.

Always check with the airlines, Marshall Islands immigration, embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date information on transit requirements, visa policies and any restrictions on entry.

If your pet does not enter the Marshall Islands from Guam or Hawaii, it will be subject to a 6-month quarantine. This quarantine should occur in places that the Marshall Islands consider rabies-free, such as Guam or Hawaii.

Microchip for animals

Your pet must be chipped with an ISO 11784/11785 microchip, which consists of 15 digits and is not encrypted. If your pet's microchip does not meet the ISO 11784/11785 standard, you can bring your own microchip scanner. Make sure your veterinarian scans your pet's microchip after implantation. Your pet's microchip number must be contained in all documents required to enter the Marshall Islands.

Vaccinations

Your dog or cat must be vaccinated against rabies for more than 30 days before entering the Marshall Islands. Your dog must also be vaccinated against plague, hepatitis, and canine parvovirus for at least 30 days and no later than 3 months before entry.

Rabies titer test

To enter the Marshall Islands, you will need rabies titer test results.

Import Permit

An import permit is not required to enter the Marshall Islands but is required to enter Hawaii or Guam.

Health Certificate

A licensed veterinarian must complete a health certificate for the animal. This certificate must be issued by your veterinarian no later than 48 hours before your pet arrives in the Marshall Islands.

Entry to the Marshall Islands by air

Pets entering the Marshall Islands must enter through the international airport.

All domestic dogs and cats should not show signs of diseases transmitted to humans.

Puppies and kittens

Unvaccinated puppies and kittens are not allowed to enter the Marshall Islands.

Import of national and foreign currency is not limited. You can import any amount in cash, travel checks, and settlement cards. Only amounts over 5000 USD need to be declared. When importing gold, a declaration is mandatory.

You can import duty-free: up to 600 cigarettes or 454 grams of cigars or tobacco, as well as up to 2 liters of strong alcoholic beverages (only for persons over 21 years old). Items of personal use are not taxed.

Perishable products, weapons, and ammunition, pornographic materials, drugs, and medications containing narcotic substances are prohibited from importing into the country. Importation of birds, animals, fruits, and plants is allowed only with a special permit issued by the quarantine service of the Ministry of Resources and Development (Quarantine Division of the Ministry of Resources and Development).

The export of most species of plants and fauna, objects raised from the bottom of the sea, and corals, as well as objects of historical and cultural value is prohibited.

When leaving the country, a tax of 20 USD is charged (paid at Majuro International Airport)

The minimum age for driving is 18 years old.

The speed limit in residential areas is 40 km/h on urban roads and 60 km/h on other roads.

A national driver's license is invalid when you use it only. Before having the right to drive a vehicle, you need to additionally have an International Driver's Permit. An International Driver’s Permit cannot replace your national driver's license. An IDP is one of the primary documents you need to have when traveling.

Car rental

When preparing documents for renting a car, each driver must present a full national driver's license that is valid for at least 2 years, having an International Driver's Permit is imperative. Every driver must carry a valid driver's license, original ID with photo, and passport.

The lessee must have a personal credit card with sufficient funds valid in the country to store the deposit. The car rental company should evaluate and check if the credit card is approved. Online booking does not exempt the lessee from presenting a valid credit card upon receipt of the car. The minimum age for most car rental companies worldwide is 25 years old. Drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 will pay a young driver fee. They are also not allowed to book premium vehicles.
