The Ministry of Health is working with public health councils to provide health services in the Marshall Islands. These services are supported by two hospitals: Leroj Atama in Majuro and Leroj Kitlang in Ebeye. There are also 58 health centers on the outer surrounding atolls and islands.

At the moment, there are cases of tuberculosis in RMI, and in 2011 it was reported that people were infected with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Expatriates need to have modern tuberculosis vaccinations before traveling to the Marshall Islands. The CDC also recommended vaccinations against typhoid fever, hepatitis A, and hepatitis B because there is a small presence of these diseases on the islands.

For an expatriate or tourist, it is important to consider evacuation options from the Marshall Islands in case of emergencies or for necessary treatments that hospitals and medical centers cannot provide. Travelers and expats traveling to the Marshall Islands are advised to obtain comprehensive international health insurance.

Risk of natural disasters

The remote location of the RMI in the Pacific region makes it very vulnerable to natural disasters. The country has been hit by cyclones, floods, hurricanes, and severe droughts. Thus, before leaving for the Marshall Islands, it is highly recommended to have an emergency medical evacuation plan.
