Visas are not required to enter the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), although visitors are required to have one:
1. A valid foreign passport.
All visitors arriving in the FSM must possess and present proof of citizenship or nationality in the form of a valid passport or other travel document issued by the government of the country of citizenship or nationality. The document must be valid for at least 120 days after the date of entry into the territory of the FSM. Citizens and nationals of the FSM, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands or the United States of America may prove their citizenship or nationality by presenting a passport, birth certificate or entry permit to the FSM.
2. A round-trip ticket.
Each visitor must demonstrate the ability to travel further outside of the FSM and leave the FSM at the conclusion of the visit. This may be demonstrated by the possession of a return or onward ticket to a destination outside the FSM to which their travel documents authorize entry. At the discretion of the Chief Immigration and Labor Officer, the visitor may present any other form of proof that the non-citizen will be able to leave the FSM at the end of the visit or otherwise.
3. Certificate of vaccination.
How long can I stay in Micronesia?
Citizens of Schengen countries can stay in Micronesia for up to 90 days within 180 days. Citizens of all other countries can stay up to 30 days, but they can extend this period to 60 days. When leaving Micronesia, all foreigners must pay an exit tax of 15-20 USD.
How to get to Micronesia?
The country can be easily reached by air or sea. Each of the four islands of Micronesia has an equipped airport. Guam and Honolulu serve as the main gateways to these four airports.
If you are flying in transit through Micronesia and do not plan to leave the airport's transit area, you generally do not need a transit visa. However, if you intend to leave the airport during a stopover, you should check the visa requirements depending on your nationality and length of stay.
If you are planning to bring pets to Micronesia, you should be aware of the following important points:
Quarantine requirements: Pets imported into Micronesia may be quarantined upon arrival. The duration of quarantine may vary depending on the type of animal and compliance with import requirements.
Health certificate: You will usually need to obtain a health certificate from an accredited veterinarian in your country. The certificate should state that your pet is free of infectious diseases and is fit to travel.
Rabies vaccinations: Pets must be up-to-date on rabies vaccinations, and vaccinations must be given within a certain time frame before travel. Specific requirements may vary, so check with Micronesian authorities for the latest regulations.
Microchipping: Make sure your pet has a microchip that meets international standards.
Import Permit: You may need to apply for an import permit from the appropriate Micronesian government agency responsible for importing animals. This permit must be obtained before you bring your pet to Micronesia.
Species restrictions: Some animals, such as certain reptiles or exotic pets, may be prohibited from importation into Micronesia for environmental reasons.
Airline rules: If you are taking your pet on a flight to Micronesia, check with the airline to see if they have additional requirements.
It is prohibited to import food products that have not passed special sanitary and hygienic control. Fruit, vegetables, wood products, plants and seeds require special attention. The export of plant and animal specimens, eggs and stuffed birds that are under state protection, as well as leather, bone, bird feathers, shells and coral products is prohibited.
A foreign visitor must have a valid national driver's license and an international driver's license to drive. Any driver must have a valid driver's license (international driver's license), vehicle registration document and proof of insurance when driving a vehicle.
The legal age for driving is 18 years.
Traffic is carried out on the right side of the road.
The permissible level of alcohol in the blood is 0.05‰.
The speed limit is 40 km/h (25 mph), in the school zone it is 24 km/h (15 mph).
In Micronesia, most roads are narrow and without sidewalks, making them dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.
Rural roads are often unpaved, in poor condition, and are often used by pedestrians, children playing, and animals. It is recommended to avoid driving at night.
Car rental
The minimum age for a Micronesian citizen to drive in Micronesia is at least 18 years and older. However, if you are a tourist and plan to rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old and have a driver's license that has been valid for about two years. This is to ensure that you have sufficient driving skills and responsibility to drive on the roads of Micronesia. There is no maximum age requirement when it comes to renting a car.
