Education in Peru for United Kingdom citizenship

Depending on the duration of your education in Peru, a temporary student visa called Formación temporal (issued for studying for less than 12 months) or a resident student visa called Formación residente (for studying for more than 12 months) is issued.

However, in some cases, "short-term" students and participants in study abroad programs do not have to apply for a student visa at all, but can study on a tourist visa

If you are going to Peru for an internship, apply for a student visa as outlined below.

1. If you are going to study in Peru, ask the institution where you will study to agree with DIGEMIN on your permanent stay in Peru.

2. Applicants for student visas coordinate the issuance of their visas with the institution where they will study and/or do their internships. This institution will have to carry out the process of applying for a visa to Peru in the Department of Migration (National Migration Authority of Peru)

3. To obtain this visa, students must fill out a visa application form and provide it along with a plane ticket to the department. 

4. The General Office sends the relevant documents to the National Assembly of Rectors, which contacts the Ministry of External Relations and evaluates the stay. The ministry then notifies the Peruvian embassy/consulate at the foreigner's place of residence about the issuance of the visa. The coordination department notifies the student of the date of receipt of the visa. 

Student visa holders are allowed to stay in Peru for up to 90 days.

The processing fee is 30 dollars and the visa can take up to 14 days to process. If the submitted documents are not in Spanish, they must be translated by a qualified translator. The visa can be renewed every three months at the Oficina de Migraciones. Work is prohibited on this visa.

Documents to be submitted to the Authority:

• Two passport-sized photos.
• A valid copy of the passport
• Proof of financial solvency (scholarship, parental support, or credit card statement)
• Proof of admission to an educational institution/university in Peru
• A copy of the tuition fee receipt
• Proof of stay in Peru

If you are a foreign resident who needs to continue your studies or practice professionally in Peru, you must request a change in your migration status with the National Migration Authority online.

This quality allows a foreigner to regularly receive higher education, basic education, art, or profession in institutions recognized by the state of Peru. In addition, the period of granting and permanence is up to 365 days with the possibility of extension for the same period. Please note that you can only request if you are in the country.

In cases where there are bilateral or multilateral agreements signed by Peru with other states or international organizations, the payment of fees, processing fees, or other means will be governed by their provisions.

Remember that if your documents are in a foreign language, they must be translated into Spanish by a collegial or sworn state translator.

Requirements for a long-term student visa

- Immigration status change form,  duly completed and signed  

- Receipt number and date of payment of the processing fee.

- A simple copy of a valid passport or similar identification document if the latter is recognized by Peru as a document.

- Submit an international exchange form issued by OCN INTERPOL - Lima of the National Police of Peru with a date of issue of no more than six (6) months. Minors are excluded.

- Submit a document issued by the competent authority confirming the absence of judicial, criminal, and police dossiers in the country of origin or in which the applicant resided for five years before they arrived in the national territory.

- Provide a sworn application for the applicant's economic solvency for the period of migration status (equal to or more than one year). If they are minor, it must be signed by their parent or guardian.

 - Submit a simple copy of the document accrediting the appropriate method of study, not older than thirty calendar days. In the case of:

1. Basic education, production technician, institutes of higher education or schools of higher education and university education, the document is issued by the relevant educational center with the official recognition of the Peruvian state, indicating the names and surnames of the applicant, as well as the duration of the study, that must be equal to or more than one year.
2. Minors living in the country unaccompanied by at least one of their parents must confirm their guardian status. Similarly, if the parents are in the country but cannot submit the application in person, they must present a notarized document on the appointment of the trustee, attaching a certified copy of the paternity document, duly legalized or apostilled.
3. The procedure for labor education, established by current regulatory legal acts, the document is issued by the entity in which the educational activity is carried out, indicating the identification data of the applicant, the duration (equal to or more than one year), as well as the university or educational institution, the center that directs the applicant.
4. A student exchange, the document is issued by a university or educational institution recognized by the Peruvian state that accepts the beneficiary, indicating the names and surnames, as well as the duration of the study, which must be at least one year.
