Foreign citizens coming to receive treatment in Sri Lanka must have a treatment visa. With one approved treatment visa, a close relative of the applicant will be issued a maximum of two medical staff visas. Minors are not eligible for a medical staff visa and must travel on a regular tourist visa.
What documents are required to obtain a medical visa?
Original medical documents indicating the record of a visit to a hospital in Sri Lanka;
A letter from a hospital in Sri Lanka stating the applicant's illness and the treatment to be provided in Sri Lanka;
Bank statement for 3 months to prove ability to pay for travel/treatment;
A duly completed visa application form;
Two recent (no more than 3 months) colored photos;
Previous visit details;
Photocopy of NIC/Driving License/Birth Certificate (Sri Lankan Citizens only);
Address Proof (NIC/Driving License/Bank Statement/Rental Agreement/Telephone Bill/GS Certificate).
What is the validity period of a medical visa?
The validity period of the treatment visa is decided on a case-by-case basis. The maximum period is usually 6 months with dual enrollment, which can be extended subject to proper fulfillment of the conditions.
