If you do not need a visa to enter, the total period of stay in the country should not exceed 90 days in 180 days. This applies when you travel as a tourist, visit family or friends, attend business meetings, cultural or sporting events, religious, political events, etc.
If you are traveling without a visa, you must have a return ticket, which is valid for 90 days; a written invitation from a family member or friend you will be staying with, or a booking confirmation if you are staying at a hotel.
You will also need money for accommodation and a trip home. Sweden requires you to have 450 Swedish kronor for each day of your visit to Sweden. The amount can sometimes be lower, for example, for young children, if you pay for accommodation and meals in advance or if you live with family or friends. You must show that you have enough money to cover your expenses by showing, for example, a bank statement or a document where the person who invited you to Sweden promises to pay all the expenses during your visit.
Persons planning to stay for more than 90 days must obtain a residence permit. The list of documents for the purpose of the visit may differ. For example, citizens of Ukraine need to have:
- a completed application form for a residence permit for each applicant at the link;
- passport or other valid travel document;
- a copy of the first page of your passport;
- Your previous passport (passports), if you have received a new passport in the last 12 months;
- one color photograph, 45 by 35 mm in size (passport format), taken during the last six months. It should be made on a light background, face to face;
- a bank statement or other document confirming that you have sufficient funds to stay in Sweden;
- return ticket or other document confirming that you have the funds to purchase it;
- proof, if you are going to visit relatives, documents demonstrating family ties;
- minor children must provide additional documents. More information can be found at the link.
You can check the list of documents for a residence permit for your country on the website of the Swedish Migration Agency.
You can apply in three ways: while in the country where you were born; online by link; actually during his stay in Sweden.
Only in exceptional cases can you obtain a national type D visa.

To enter Sweden both short-term and long-term, you also need health insurance that meets the following criteria:

- Valid in all Schengen countries;
- The minimum coverage is 30,000 euros.
The terms of the insurance, such as the duration, duration and amount of your coverage, must be clearly stated in the confirmation letter or insurance document.
The application fee for a tourist visa to Sweden is 90 euros , while you have to pay 45 euros for children aged 6-12 years old and it is free for children aged 0-6 years old. But depending on your nationality you may have to pay a lower fee.
Schengen visa fee for citizens of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Moldova and Georgia: 35 euros.
Remember that visa applications must be submitted at least 15 days before your trip, but not earlier than 6 months before it. Read more here.
Visa applications are submitted in person or through the Swedish consulate or the consulate of the country representing the Swedish consular affairs.
In countries where there is no Swedish consulate, applications may be submitted through the consulate of the Schengen State, which represents the interests of the Swedish consulate. Applicants wishing to apply through a non-Swedish consulate should contact them to ensure that they accept such applications.
