Higher education is offered in universities, higher institutes and intermediate institutes.
The medium of instruction in all public higher education institutions is Arabic. Some private universities offer programs in English.

Bachelor degree programs (Darajat al-Bakaloriyoos) usually last 4 years. The academic year at the university lasts 30 weeks, divided into 2 equal semesters, plus examination sessions. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree, often referred to as a license and certificate of completion (Musaddiqat takharuj).
