Work in Tanzania for Austria citizenship

Tanzania offers three different categories of work and residence permits:

• Class A permit for foreign investors
• Class B permits for foreign workers with special skills filling a position for which there are no suitable workers in Tanzania
• Class C permits for missionaries, volunteers, students, researchers, etc.

Most workers need a Class B work permit in Tanzania.

Requirements for obtaining a work visa to Tanzania

Visa requirements for foreigners planning to travel to Tanzania include:

• Completed visa application form
• A passport valid for at least six months after the applicant's intended date of entry
• Five passport photos
• Evidence of yellow fever vaccination
• Evidence of sufficient financial resources

To obtain a Class B work and residence permit, applicants must provide the following:

• A signed employment contract
• Valid passport
• Passport photos
• A copy of the applicant's resume
• Copies of education and other job qualifications, including references from previous employers.

Application process

Foreign nationals who require a visa should begin the application process by locating the Tanzanian embassy or consulate in their country of residence. The embassy will be able to provide an accurate, up-to-date list of visa requirements. After confirming the list of documents required for the application, the employee must collect all the necessary documents and submit them to the embassy.

If an employee requires a Class B permit, the employer must apply on their behalf before they can travel to Tanzania. The employee will need to send the necessary documents to support the application. The employer will also have to prove to the Ministry of Labor the necessity of hiring a foreigner.

As soon as the competent officials issue a work and residence permit, the employee can go to Tanzania and start working.

Other important considerations

The Office of the Prime Minister of Tanzania has developed an Online Work Permit Application and Issuance System (OWAIS). The system is integrated with the online residence permit application system (e-Permit), which is managed by the Immigration Department. The integrated system allows applicants to electronically submit Work Permit/Residence Permit applications, pay required fees, and receive status notifications and grant notifications online through their email. https://epermit.kazi.go.tz/web/main/guidelines 

Foreign workers can bring their spouses and dependents to Tanzania with them on the basis of their residence permits. However, they will need to provide marriage and birth certificates along with other supporting documents.
