Citizens of the following countries do NOT need to apply for a visa to enter Tonga. Upon arrival, they will be issued a free 31-day visitor visa, which can be extended for up to six months. If any of the countries listed below are Schengen member states, they will receive an automatic 90-day visa upon arrival.

Tonga for passport holders from countries that need to apply for a Visitor Visa before arrival:

Visitors holding a non-Tongan passport are advised that they are not permitted to work, engage in business or attend courses while in the Kingdom on a visitor visa. All non-Tongan passport holders should ensure that their visas remain valid for the duration of their stay in the Kingdom. Persons who breach the Immigration Act may be prosecuted and subject to a term of imprisonment or a fine.

Requirements:

Microchip for animals

Tonga doesn’t require your pet to be identified using a pet microchip, but it is recommended that you chip your pet and register your contact information. If your pet doesn't have a registered microchip, make sure that your pets wear identification tags and have the owner's contact information.

Vaccinations

Dogs and cats entering Tonga must be vaccinated against rabies no later than 21 days and no earlier than 12 months before entering the country. Dogs should be vaccinated against plague, hepatitis, canine parvovirus, echinococcosis-hydatidosis. Cats should be vaccinated against feline panleukopenia, feline viral rhinotracheitis/calicivirus, and echinococcosis-hydatidosis.

Rabies titer test

A rabies titer test isn’t required to enter Tonga from any country. Health certificate USDA or CFIA approved dog or cat certificate is required if you are traveling from the United States or Canada. If you are not traveling from any of these countries, your country's government agency responsible for importing and exporting animals must approve the forms.

Import permission

To bring a dog or cat to Tonga, you must first submit an application form to the Tonga Ministry of Agriculture and food.

Entry to Tonga by air

Pets must be imported to Tonga via Fua'amotu International Airport. Prior notification of flight arrival must be sent to the Tonga Veterinary Service at least 24 hours prior to arrival. Then an inspection is carried out by an inspector who checks the animal and documents. If all the documents are in order and the veterinarian recognizes the animal as healthy, it will be released within a few hours. There is a fee for verification. Whenever you travel to another country, such as Tonga, it is always advisable to have a specific document certifying ownership of your pet. All domestic dogs and cats shouldn’t show signs of a human-transmitted disease when checked at the airport of entry. If your dog or cat is in poor health, you may need an additional checkup with a licensed veterinarian at your expense.

Puppies and kittens

Unvaccinated puppies and kittens aren’t allowed to enter Tonga. Rabies vaccination should be done no earlier than 3 months. Puppies and kittens should wait at least 21 days after being vaccinated against rabies before entering Tonga.
