A Vietnam Business Visa is a short-term visa to Vietnam issued to foreigners who will work with/for a company in Vietnam, attend meetings/negotiations, or sign contracts, and don’t have a valid work visa or temporary residence card.
A Vietnamese business visa is classified as a DN1 and DN2 visa:
- DN1 visa - granted to foreigners who cooperate with other businesses and organizations with legal status in accordance with Vietnamese law.
- DN2 visa - granted to foreigners who come to Vietnam to provide services, establish a commercial presence or carry out other activities in accordance with international treaties of which Vietnam is a member.
The duration of business visas is available in 3 versions:
- 1-month disposable / reusable;
- 3-month disposable / reusable;
- multiple entry for 1 year (only for holders of USA passports).
What are the requirements for obtaining a business visa to Vietnam?
With the exception of citizens of Vietnamese visa-free countries , all foreigners must apply for a business visa to do business in Vietnam.
To get a business visa to Vietnam, you must meet the following requirements:
- You aren’t banned from entering Vietnam.
- You must have a sponsor company in Vietnam (the company you will work for after entering Vietnam) that is willing to sponsor your visa and travel.
- Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to Vietnam and have at least 2 blank pages.
- Photos (4*6 x 2*2, white background, on paper or .jpg, depending on your Vietnam visa processing method).
How do I get a business visa to Vietnam?
You can apply for a business visa to Vietnam in one of the following ways:
- At the embassy or Consulate of Vietnam in your country.
- Upon arrival at one of the international airports in Vietnam.
- Online, through the portal of an electronic visa to Vietnam.
_____
1) Obtaining a Vietnamese business visa at the Embassy/Consulate of Vietnam
If you want to get a Vietnamese business visa in this way, you need to visit the nearest Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in your country. A list of Vietnamese embassies and consulates around the world can be found here.
The procedure for applying for a business visa of the Vietnamese embassy will be as follows:
1. Get a sponsorship letter for a business visa to Vietnam.
Your Vietnam sponsor company applies for a sponsorship letter for a Vietnam Business Visa (also known as a business visa invitation letter, business visa approval letter, or Vietnam entry permit) to the Vietnam Immigration Department.
If the application is approved, the Immigration Department of Vietnam:
- will send a sponsorship letter to your sponsor;
- will fax an email for your business visa to the Embassy/Consulate of Vietnam.
2. Prepare the documents for stamping a business visa to Vietnam.
Your sponsor will send you an invitation letter to submit with other documents:
- completed application form for a visa to Vietnam;
- original international passport;
- photos;
- visa fee, which depends on the embassy/consulate.
3. Get a business visa stamp.
You submit your prepared documents to the registered embassy or Consulate of Vietnam by mail or in person.
Once your business visa is approved, it will be enclosed in your passport and you can use it to enter the country.
2) Getting a business visa to Vietnam on arrival
The process of obtaining a business visa on arrival is almost the same as obtaining a business visa at the embassy. However, instead of getting a stamp at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate, you will receive a stamp at the Vietnamese airport upon arrival.
This process looks like this:
1. Get a sponsorship letter for a business visa to Vietnam
Your Vietnam sponsor will receive a business visa sponsorship letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department and send it to you.
2. Prepare the documents for obtaining a business visa:
- print out a sponsorship letter;
- fill out the application form;
- prepare the original passport;
- prepare your photos;
- pay the visa fee.
3. Get a business visa stamp.
Upon arrival at the airport in Vietnam, you will need to show the above documents to the Vietnamese immigration officer in order for the visa to be placed in your passport.
3) Obtaining an electronic business visa
You can submit this application yourself, or the invitation company can do so.
To apply yourself, go to the portal of the Vietnamese migration service and fill out the form:
- choose «business activity» as the goal of your trip;
- upload your photo;
- upload a scanned photo of your passport;
- you pay the visa fee.
If your application for an e-visa to Vietnam Business Visa is approved, you can download the visa and present it at the Vietnam checkpoint.
Application from the inviting organization/company
If the company you are joining is going to apply for your business visa, it must register on the Vietnam migration service portal, where they will be provided with an account and an electronic signature.
- They must upload a scanned photo of your passport, your photos, and pay the visa fee.
- If their application is approved, they must send you a registration code so that you can print out your visa and enter Vietnam.
Important! The e-business visa is only valid for 30 days for one-time entry and can’t be extended without entering Vietnam. Therefore, if you want to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days, we recommend that you get a business visa using one of the other two options.
A work visa for foreigners in Vietnam is started as LD1 and LD2.
- LD1 - granted to foreigners who come to work in Vietnam with a certificate of exemption from a work permit, unless otherwise provided by international treaties of which Vietnam is a member.
- L LD2-granted to foreigners who must have a work permission to work in Vietnam. This visa is valid for up to 2 years and can be extended . However, if the work permit is valid for less than 1 year, the validity period of the corresponding work visa is equal to the validity period of the work permit.
How do I get a work visa to Vietnam?
To get a work visa to Vietnam, both the organization where the foreigner works and the foreigner himself must follow these steps:
1.The representative of the organization where the foreigner should work submits documents to the Department of Immigration of Vietnam or to the Immigration Department of the Department of public security of the city or province where his main office is located.
2. After submitting the documents and paying the visa fee, the applicant receives a meeting note indicating the expected date of receipt of the visa processing result.
3. A representative of the company will visit the Immigration Department/Office on the appointed date to receive a visa letter (If issued).
4. After receiving the letter, the business entity notifies the foreigner so that he can complete the visa processing procedure.
5. A foreigner at the Office of the Embassy/Consulate of Vietnam in the host country submits:
- NA1 visa form attached with photo with the size 3x4cm;
- Original valid passport;
- A copy of the visa letter issued by the Department of Immigration / Office of Vietnam.
6. Pays the visa fee submitted by the embassy/consulate to get a work visa stamp in your passport.
What is the difference between a work visa and a business visa?
Many foreigners may think that a business visa and a work visa for Vietnam are the same thing. But in reality, they are completely different. A Vietnamese work visa isn’t a business visa.
- While a business visa (DN visa) is provided to those who come to work for businesses based in Vietnam, a work visa (LD visa) is provided to those who come to work for a Vietnamese company or office.
- The DN visa is submitted online or directly at the Embassy/Consulate of Vietnam in a foreign country by foreigners themselves, but a work visa in Vietnam is submitted by the company where the foreigner works, and then the foreigners are stamped at the embassy in a foreign country.
- You don't need a work permit to apply for a business visa, but you do need a work visa to apply for one.
- A work visa may have a longer validity period than a business visa.
- If you have a work visa, you can apply for a temporary residence card, but you can't apply for a business visa having a work visa.
