Education in Australia is a structured system formed by public (38) and private (5) universities, as well as colleges (around 600). At the same time, the learning process includes the following steps:
- bachelor's degree
- magistracy
- doctoral studies
State colleges operate in accordance with the requirements of the TAFE - Technical and Further Education system. You can get technical and additional education in them.
After graduating from a TAFE educational institution, depending on the length and complexity of the course, graduates receive a diploma or an appropriate certificate.
Certificates have 4 degrees: I, II, III, IV.
Diploma can be: Diploma (ordinary), Advanced Diploma (diploma of an advanced level).
Universities provide an opportunity to obtain higher education in Australia not only to citizens of this country, but also to foreigners. Training programs meet all international standards. Education is conducted in English.
Those wishing to obtain a bachelor's degree at an Australian university are given a choice of a variety of majors. The most popular of them are:
Jurisprudence;
Economy;
Business;
Agriculture;
Ecology;
Medicine;
Technologies and engineering.
Unfortunately, this possibility is not provided. However, both the universities themselves and the country's government provide foreign students with some opportunities to reduce tuition fees or reduce their cost to zero:
- University scholarships – awarded annually to the best students. They cover the costs of a bachelor's or master's degree and are valid for one year.
- The Australian Public Service Endeavor Scholarships and Fellowships deals with financing international students. As part of this program, a student can study for free at an accredited higher education institution, as well as receive additional money for accommodation, food, transportation, insurance, educational materials, and transportation.
- independent ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students): English language courses, preparation for English language exams
- schools (primary and secondary): schooling of children, elementary and high schools
- secondary school exchange program: an exchange program for schoolchildren, lasting from 1 quarter
- vocational education and training (VET): secondary and special education available for school and university graduates
- higher education: higher education (undergraduate and graduate)
- postgraduate research (alternative to candidate and doctoral)
- non-award courses (short-term "exchange" training, lasting from one semester.
Obtaining a student visa is a very important step. Even if you're starting your studies online, getting your student visa now will help you prepare to study on campus in Australia in the future. A student visa can also help you prepare for a post-study work visa (subclass 485 visa).
Relevant documents include:
- Certificates proving your previous training, including any qualifications you already have.
- Evidence of your English language skills.
- Certificates or documents proving previous education or work experience if you are seeking course credits. They must be translated into English.
Student visa (subclass 500)
A student visa (subclass 500) allows you to live, work and study in Australia for a maximum of five years according to your course
On this visa, you are generally allowed to work no more than 40 hours per fortnight during term time and an unlimited number of hours during study breaks. Currently, students can also start working on arrival in Australia without having to wait for their course to start.
1. Offer letter
If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter from the educational institution.
2. Confirmation of Registration (CoE)
A Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) is a document that will be issued by your educational institution confirming enrollment in a particular course. A CoE will be sent to you after you accept your offer and pay the deposit.
You must include a copy of this document with your visa application so that the Australian Government has evidence that you are enrolled on the course you apply for.
3. Confirmation of knowledge of the English language
If you are not a native English speaker, you will need to provide a certificate of results from an approved English language exam, as training courses in Australia are taught in English. This certificate will confirm to the Australian Government that you meet the minimum English language proficiency levels required to successfully complete the course.
4. Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.
To qualify as a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE), you must write an application that meets two criteria:
1) That you are genuinely coming to Australia to study and not for any other reason.
2) You will only be living in Australia temporarily.
5. Confirmation of the availability of sufficient funds
To get an Australian student visa, you must prove that you have enough money to support yourself throughout your stay. There are two options for fulfilling this requirement:
1) Provide bank statements, evidence of grants or scholarships. This will confirm that you have enough money to cover all your costs and expenses on the course, such as travel, course fees and rent.
2) Provide proof of your parent's or partner's annual income, which must be 62,222 Australian dollars for the year immediately before applying. If you are bringing family members, the annual income must be at least 72,592 Australian dollars.
6. Health insurance for international students (OSHC)
As an international student in Australia, you must have Overseas Study Insurance (OSHC) for the duration of your stay.
7. Health requirements
The Australian government requires all international students to be in good health before entering the country. As a result, you may be required to complete a health examination and provide a medical certificate to confirm that you meet these health requirements.
8. Requirement for behavior
There are also certain character requirements, which you must meet if you want to study in Australia. In your application, you should answer some basic questions about your character and past behavior. In some cases, you may even be required to provide a police background check.
In many cases, a graduate may apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) as required by the Department of Immigration. This visa entitles you to live and work unlimited hours in Australia. After receiving the visa, the applicant can stay in Australia for 18, 24 or 48 months.
For students under the age of 18, additional documents must be provided:
- Parental consent is a special form in which parents allow their child to apply for a visa.
- Social conditions – confirmation that the student has been provided with appropriate housing. Normally, your educational institution is responsible for providing the student with an appropriate homestay.
