Emigration to Argentina has a number of advantages: the country is rich in various natural and cultural attractions, the state's economy is stable, and migration legislation helps attract new residents. In addition, the exchange rate of the local currency can be very favorable for foreigners, making Argentina an affordable destination. The country also has a reliable Internet connection, so you can safely work remotely.

How can a foreigner enter Argentina?

Citizens of about 80 countries can enter Argentina without a tourist visa and stay here for up to 90 days. A valid passport is enough to cross the border. You can check whether you need a visa on the official website of the Government of Argentina.

One of the advantages of a tourist visa in Argentina is that it can be extended for another 90 days. However, if you plan to stay in the country longer than 90 days, it is better to legalize and get a temporary (and then permanent) residence permit.

Types of residence permit in Argentina

In Argentina, there are more than 10 ways to obtain permanent residence:

- "rentier" visa;

- pensioner visa with passive income;

- childbirth in Argentina;

- family reunification;

- marriage with an Argentine citizen;

- teaching;

- work visa;

- investor visa;

- special visas for scientists, athletes, actors, representatives of religious institutions;

- medical visa;

- humanitarian visa;

- refugee.

The easiest and fastest way to legalize in Argentina is to issue a "rentier" visa.

What is an Argentine rentista visa?

A "rentier" visa can be obtained by foreigners who do not depend on local Argentine income. Translated, rentist is a person who has passive income, and rentista is a residence permit for owners of passive income.

The visa can be a good option for digital nomads and remote freelancers.

Who can get a rentier visa?

According to the laws of Argentina, in order to obtain a "rentier" visa, a foreign citizen must have a monthly income of at least 30,000 ARS (157 USD), which is obtained from investments in foreign banks, companies, securities, rental housing and other sources that are not associated with wages.

In addition to the applicant, the spouse and children (under the age of 25) can be included in the application for permanent residence in Argentina under the "Rantier" program. However, for this you need to have additional income.

The validity period of the residence permit

The visa is issued for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension up to 3 years. At the end of this period, the applicant can submit a request for permanent residence (permanent residence in Argentina). You can also apply for Argentine citizenship after two years of residence in the country.

Advantages of the rentier visa

Rentier visa holders can open a business in Argentina and work independently, but not as an employee.

How to issue a rentier visa?

In order to apply for a "rentier" visa, the applicant will need to document the legality of the received income: provide a real estate rental agreement, documents confirming the availability of financial income, an employment contract, etc. All documents must have an apostille of the applicant's country of origin. The package of documents submitted to the Argentine Migration Service must be translated by an official translator with a signature and certified by a board of translators.

The state fee for issuing a visa is $130.

The migration service considers the package of documents for about 90 days. During the application review period, you will receive a temporary residence permit, that is, you can live in Argentina from the first day of application submission.
