Jobs in Poland for Ukrainian immigrants: what do you need to start working?

Today, many Ukrainians are looking for new employment opportunities and a better future, and Poland is becoming the most attractive destination for many of them. However, before heading west, it is important to understand what steps you need to take to start working in Poland.

According to the new legislation, Ukrainians who crossed the border of Ukraine and Poland after February 24, 2022, must obtain a PESEL - a taxpayer number in Poland. This number is a mandatory identification symbol for all citizens who plan to stay and work in Poland. The PESEL consists of 11 digits and contains information about the date of birth, serial number, gender and a check digit. The issuance of PESEL is free of charge, and you need to apply for it on the spot.

After receiving PESEL, you get the right to work legally in Poland for a period of up to 18 months, with the possibility of extending this period up to 36 months. This opens up wide opportunities for you to find and get a job.

If you already have a PESEL and are legally residing in Poland, you can start looking for a job. Ukrainian immigrants in Poland have the opportunity to look for a job on private job search sites such as Pracuj.pl or OLX, or in official state institutions such as the Employment Center. Additionally, social networks such as LinkedIn and Facebook can also be useful for posting information about your job search and communicating with potential employers.

The issue of salaries in Poland is also important for Ukrainian immigrants. According to the offers available on Polish job search sites, in Warsaw, salaries for Ukrainians can range from 4,000 to 11,000 zlotys per month (approximately 28,000 to 76,000 hryvnias), depending on the position, qualification level and field of activity.
