What does the India-Greece Migration and Mobility Agreement entail?
The agreement will be an important step to strengthen cooperation between India and Greece in the issue of illegal migration, fight against human trafficking, facilitate the flow of students and businessmen between the two countries, and also provide an opportunity for qualified workers from each state to come to work in the other.
The leaders of India and Greece hope that agreements will be reached as soon as possible. The advantage of the agreement will be the opportunity to benefit from the economic growth of each of the countries under simplified conditions.
Details of the Declaration and possible relaxations have not yet been disclosed.
With which countries does India already have agreements on migration and mobility?
India signed the latest Declaration of Intent on Migration and Mobility (DoI) on 15 March 2023 with Italy. The country also has similar agreements with France (2018), Great Britain (2021), Germany, Cyprus and Austria (2022).
The key feature of this type of agreement is that it is reciprocal in nature and covers two-way mobility of citizens of both states, starting with short-term visas and ending with the fight against illegal migration.
What else did India and Greece agree on?
By 2030, both countries plan to double the level of bilateral trade. Cooperation in the development of start-ups of both states, cooperation in the field of shipping, defense support, cyber security, maritime security and the fight against terrorism were also among the topics of discussion.
So, India and Greece are establishing cooperation, both in the field of economy and in migration issues. It is already clear that the states are strategic partners that plan to bring bilateral relations between the countries to a new level.
