Millions of foreigners from different parts of the world visit Indonesia every year, fall in love with its fantastic pearl - the island of Bali, and look for ways to stay here forever. This place attracts travelers with its strong economy, respectful culture, beautiful landscapes and friendly people. The advantage of the region is that representatives of any nationality can obtain a residence permit here.

What types of long-term Bali visas are available to expats? Everything about the procedure for obtaining a residence permit in Indonesia is further in our material.

For what period is a long-term visa issued in Bali?

Usually a residence permit, also known as KITAS, is issued in Indonesia for a period of 6-12 months with the possibility of extension. After 5 years, the expat will be able to submit documents for a permanent residence permit.

Types of long-term visas in Bali

If you plan to live in Indonesia for a long time, you must choose one of the available options for residence permits or visas for a long-term stay in Bali:

Single entry visa B211A

This type of visa is best suited for travelers who plan to stay in Bali for 1 to 6 months. This type of permit is usually chosen by digital nomads and island fans who want to stay here longer. The simple registration procedure and low cost (compared to VITAS and KITAS) make it quite popular.

A special feature of this visa is the need to obtain a letter of guarantee from an Indonesian or an Indonesian company. It is this guarantor that will reimburse the costs of deportation if the tourist breaks the law.

The most common types of single-entry visas:

- Tourist Visa: You need an Indonesian citizen to sponsor you and allow you to stay and do tourist activities in Indonesia.

- Business visa – in this case you need to be sponsored by an Indonesian company. This visa allows foreigners to hold business meetings in Indonesia.

Importantly! The B211A single entry visa does not allow foreigners to work for an Indonesian company or own a business in Indonesia. If you want to work, you need a temporary residence permit (ITAS / KITAS).

For what period it is issued: 6 months.

The initial period of stay is 60 days. After that, you can apply for another 60 days up to 2 times. Thus, the total maximum stay with this visa is 180 days.

Also note that the visa is a single entry visa, if you leave Indonesia within the validity period of the visa, the said visa will be invalidated and you will have to reapply.

Minimum expenses: $505-605.

How to get a B211A visa?

The application must be submitted through the country's official immigration portal.

The completed permit will be sent to your mail in PDF format. It must be printed and presented at passport control at the airport of arrival. The visa is valid from the day of arrival in Indonesia. For the first extension, it is necessary to pass biometrics at the immigration center. Extending a visa a second time is much easier - the courier collects the passport and returns it with a new stamp in a few days.

VOA visa

For what period it is issued: 2 months.

Based on the VOA visa, a foreigner can stay in Indonesia for 30 days after arrival. It can also be extended once for 30 days. After the deadline, you can leave the country, come back and get a visa for 30 days again.

Minimum spend: $64.

How to get a VOA visa?

This permit is issued for the purpose of tourism, official visit, business trips and transit.

In order to extend the visa, it is necessary to submit a questionnaire with passport and contact details and residential address to the immigration office.

Multiple entry visa

This type of permit is very popular among foreigners who wish to live in Bali but need to travel frequently outside the island. The design principle is similar to B211A, but only Indonesian companies can sponsor the permit. It can be used for business trips, as well as for family visits, seminars, participation in sports competitions, art exhibitions and cultural events.

It is forbidden to work with this permission.

For what period is issued:

The visa is valid for 12 months, and during these 12 months, a foreigner can visit Indonesia multiple times and stay up to 60 days per visit.

Permit for a limited stay (KITAS)

If you want to stay in Bali for several years, rather than just a few months, you need to consider applying for a Permit for Limited Stay (KITAS).

The validity period is up to two years (depending on the type of permit) and allows its extension directly in the country. Another advantage is that it is reusable, allowing the owner to travel outside of Indonesia and return again.

There are several types of limited stay permits:

1. Investor's KITAS

For what period it is issued: 1-2 years with the possibility of extension. After 5 years, the investor has the right to submit documents for PMP.
