4. Toyota RAV4 – down 25.6%. The model saw the largest decline among the top 10 and dropped to fourth place.

6. Toyota Camry – up 4.4%. The sedan was the only Toyota model in the ranking to see an increase in sales.

7. Chevrolet Silverado – a 5.2% decline. The second American pickup truck in the top ten ended the reporting period with a drop in sales.

8. Hyundai Tucson – a 1.3% increase. The Korean crossover showed modest but positive growth.

9. Kia Sportage – up 2.4%. Another South Korean model remained among the world’s most sought-after cars.

10. Volkswagen Tiguan – up 6.8%. The German crossover rounded out the ranking and posted the second-best growth rate in the top 10 after the Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla Model Y Overtakes Longtime Leaders

The Tesla Model Y became the only all-electric vehicle in the top ten of the ranking. Over the first seven months of 2026, sales of the model rose by 19.6%. No other model in the top 10 showed such strong growth.

This isn’t the Model Y’s first time in the global lead. In 2023, the crossover had already become the world’s best-selling car and the first all-electric model to top the annual rankings. According to JATO Dynamics, 1.22 million of these vehicles were sold worldwide that year—a 64% increase over 2022.

In 2026, the Model Y is once again outpacing models with internal combustion engines and hybrid versions. Its closest competitor, the Toyota Corolla, saw a 6% drop in sales. The Toyota RAV4, which is often compared to the Model Y in the family crossover segment, experienced an even sharper decline—25.6%. However, the ranking covers only January through July, so the final winner will be determined after the full-year data is released.

Toyota remains the most prominent brand in the ranking

Crossovers formed the largest group in the ranking. The top ten included the Tesla Model Y, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Volkswagen Tiguan. They took six out of ten spots, including three in the top five.

Performance within the segment was mixed. Sales of the Model Y rose by 19.6%, the Tiguan by 6.8%, the Sportage by 2.4%, and the Tucson by 1.3%. At the same time, the Honda CR-V saw a 2.4% decline, and the Toyota RAV4 fell by 25.6%. Thus, the popularity of the SUV segment did not guarantee the same results for all manufacturers.

The remaining two spots were taken by the American pickup trucks, the Ford F-Series and the Chevrolet Silverado. Both models ended the reporting period with declines: 9.5% and 5.2%, respectively. Sedans and compact passenger cars are represented only by the Toyota Corolla and Camry. This distribution shows that global demand is increasingly focused on spacious and versatile vehicles.
