Iraq's medical system is currently considered quite limited. Iraq is experiencing a serious shortage of medical personnel, medicines, drugs, and hospital beds. International humanitarian groups are working in some cities and villages, but their forces are clearly insufficient. The supply of medicines is limited only to the channels of international humanitarian organizations and military aid from the coalition countries, so medicines are in short supply and not cheap. It is recommended that foreigners bring with them the entire necessary set of medicines for critical situations, especially dressing materials, antiseptics, remedies for stomach disorders, and pressure relief.

Issuance of visas for the purpose of treatment is not provided. If you are a citizen of a country with which Iraq has a visa-free regime, you do not need a visa to enter for treatment. If you are a citizen of a country that requires a visa to Iraq, you should obtain a regular visa.
—
Ambulance service will be provided free of charge, but in non-critical situations, foreigners must pay for all services on the spot in cash when contacting local health care facilities. Comprehensive international medical insurance covering emergency evacuation from the country by air is strongly recommended.
—
Iraqi health facilities provide services to refugees and asylum seekers free of charge, including emergency services. However, in some circumstances, a minimum fee may be required.
According to the Nationality Law, a child born in or outside of Iraq to a father who holds Iraqi citizenship is considered an Iraqi citizen.
Every person born in Iraq to a mother with Iraqi citizenship and a father without citizenship is considered an Iraqi citizen.
Also, any child born to an unknown mother or father and found (newly born) in Iraq is considered to have been in Iraq and is eligible for citizenship.
