Foreign workers who are exempt from obtaining a work permit
In order to work legally in Iraq, a foreigner will need a work visa and a work permit. A work visa gives permission to enter a country for the purpose of work, while a work permit allows workers to work after arrival.
—
Iraqi labor laws prohibit foreign workers from working in the country unless they obtain a work permit. Employers in Iraq can apply for work permits on behalf of their foreign workers.
In addition, Iraqi labor laws require the employer, at its own expense, to provide foreign workers with paid round-trip tickets to their employee's country unless the worker leaves work without a legitimate reason.
The Labor Law requires the employer, in the event of the death of a foreign worker, to do everything necessary to repatriate the deceased worker's body to the country of origin or country of residence upon request by the relatives of the worker.
