Stages of applying for a student visa in Luxembourg
What you need to do to get a study visa in Luxembourg:
1. Apply for a temporary residence permit.
As mentioned, you will need to collect all the documents listed above to get a temporary residence permit.
It is best to do this in advance, as the processing period can last up to 60 days. This may even take longer if the documents are incomplete or if the consulate needs additional information or documents.
2. Wait for your temporary residence permit.
You will be sent a permit, but it will only be valid for 90 days, so you will need to apply for a Schengen visa during this period.
If you are a citizen of countries where you do not need to apply for a visa, you can enter Luxembourg.
3. Apply for a Schengen visa (type D)
If you need to apply for an entry visa, you will need to apply for it at least 15 days before your scheduled departure.
To do this, you need to submit the following documents:
●Completed General Schengen application form.
●Valid passport.
●Two photos with the format of the passport.
●Residence permit (if you do not reside in your country of origin).
●Confirmation of payment of the visa fee.
●Confirmation of the availability of funds to pay for your stay.
●Travel / health insurance.
Depending on your country, you can apply through the Consulate of Luxembourg or Belgium.
Please note: this visa is only valid for three months.
4. Arrive in Luxembourg and declare your arrival.
Once in Luxembourg, the student must submit a declaration of arrival at the Office of the administration of their commune. This must be done within three days of arrival.
Documents required for this declaration:
●A valid passport or EU residence permit, if available.
●Temporary residence permit.
●Valid proof of address, such as a rental agreement.
●You will be given a copy of your arrival declaration against receipt.
5. Pass a medical examination.
Upon arrival, the student must undergo a medical examination and screening for tuberculosis.
The immigration medical department will then issue a medical certificate, which will then be referred to the Immigration Office. This is important because it is another requirement for obtaining a residence permit.
6. Apply for a residence permit.
The student must apply for this permit with the immigration office within three months of arrival.
To review the application, you must submit the following documents:
●Valid passport.
●A copy of the temporary residence permit.
●Copy of the arrival declaration.
●Certificate of enrollment of a higher educational institution.
●Payment confirmation.
Once approved, the office will invite the student to make an appointment with the Immigration Office. Here the student will be photographed and fingerprinted.
A residence permit with a chip should be ready for receipt in a couple of days.
This permit is only valid for one year, so the student must apply for an extension at least two months before the expiration date.
