Malta is a small island nation in southern Europe known for its warm climate and idyllic sandy beaches. This southern European country also boasts breathtaking scenery. So it's no surprise that Malta is becoming a popular destination for digital nomads in Europe.
In order to leave your daily routine behind and start a new life in Malta as a freelancer, you can use a digital nomad visa.
In order to attract more nomads to the country, the country's authorities have launched the Maltese Digital Nomad Visa, which they call the Nomad Residence Permit. This visa, introduced in June 2021, allows individuals who work remotely using telecommunications technology to enter and stay in Malta for a year, while maintaining their current job, even if the company is located in another country.
Those who want to live as digital nomads in Malta and can work remotely can apply for a visa if they meet the requirements.
Please note that the Malta Digital Nomad Visa is intended for non-EU nationals, as being an EU (European Union)/EEA (European Economic Area) citizen, you are entitled to stay and work in Malta anyway.
For how long is a residence permit issued for a remote worker?
The visa allows you to stay in the country for up to a year, with the possibility of extending the period of stay.
