Large minivans and SUVs dominate the list of the most popular family cars of 2026. According to a study by iSeeCars, which analyzed more than 2 million used cars, the top spots were taken by models whose owners, on average, drive the greatest distance per year. The ranking includes the Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager, Chevrolet Suburban, Kia Carnival, GMC Yukon XL, and Toyota Sienna. They share spacious interiors, seating for 7 to 9 passengers, and a focus on regular family trips.

Are you planning a trip to Europe by car?

In many countries, highways are tolled and require an electronic road vignette. This is a digital permit that confirms payment for the use of toll roads and is checked automatically by the license plate number - without stickers and paper receipts. Making a vignette online before you travel will help you avoid fines, travel delays, and unpleasant situations during inspections.

The iSeeCars ranking is based not on sales but on average annual mileage. Analysts examined over 2 million used cars and identified the models that owners use the most. This is an important metric for family cars: such vehicles are often used for daily commutes, school runs, and long-distance trips.

The top models in the ranking include:

- Chrysler Pacifica – about 33,590 km per year

- Chrysler Voyager – about 33,070 km

- Chevrolet Suburban – about 31,585 km

- Kia Carnival – about 30,390 km

- GMC Yukon XL – about 30,148 km

- Toyota Sienna – about 27,950 km

Most of the models on the list are minivans or large SUVs with three rows of seats. They seat 7–9 passengers, have a large trunk, and are suitable for families who value space and comfort on long trips.

In our previous article, we discussed where in Europe it’s cheapest and fastest to charge an electric vehicle: a 2026 ranking of countries.

The Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager are the top family cars

The Chrysler Pacifica and Chrysler Voyager took the top two spots in the iSeeCars ranking. The Pacifica averages 20,872 miles per year—about 33,590 km—while the Voyager averages 20,549 miles, or approximately 33,070 km. For the Pacifica, this is 56.7% higher than the average for gasoline-powered cars in the study. iseecars.com

Both models are specifically designed for large families. The 2026 Chrysler Pacifica comes standard with 7 seats, and an 8-passenger configuration is available on select trim levels. The Stow ’n Go system allows the second- and third-row seats to fold flat into the floor, and the maximum cargo capacity reaches about 3,980 liters. chrysler

The Pacifica is equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 and is available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. According to the manufacturer, the front-wheel-drive version gets approximately 8.4 L/100 km on the highway, while the all-wheel-drive version gets about 9.4 L/100 km.

For families who frequently drive in winter or travel outside the city, the AWD option can be a significant advantage. chrysler

The Chrysler Voyager has a similar practical design but simpler features. It also features Stow ’n Go for the second and third rows, and with the seats folded down, up to 140.5 cubic feet of cargo space is available—about 3,980 liters. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and rear parking sensors.

Chevrolet Suburban – a large 8–9-passenger family SUV

According to iSeeCars, the Chevrolet Suburban has an average annual mileage of about 19,626 miles, or 31,585 km. It is one of the most heavily used large SUVs in the sample.

The Suburban is designed to seat 7–9 passengers, depending on the configuration. The third row is a full-size row, not just a token one, making the model ideal for large families and those who regularly transport multiple passengers with luggage.

In 2026, the Suburban is available with a gasoline V8 and a Duramax diesel engine. The most important practical difference is fuel economy: the large gasoline versions are noticeably more expensive to operate, while the diesel is better suited for frequent long-distance trips.

Another strong point of the model is its cargo space. Even with three rows of seats, the Suburban remains spacious, and with the rear rows folded down, it transforms into a very large cargo area.

Kia Carnival – a 7–8-seat family minivan

The Kia Carnival has an average annual mileage of 18,884 miles, or about 30,390 km, according to the iSeeCars ranking. The 2026 model year is available with three rows of seats and configurations for 7 or 8 passengers.

The base gasoline-powered Carnival is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 producing 287 k.s. and an 8-speed automatic transmission. It has front-wheel drive. The maximum allowable weight for a braked trailer is about 1,588 kg, which is useful for family trips with a trailer or extra luggage.

According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the fuel economy of the gasoline version is approximately:

- 13.1 L/100 km in the city

- 9.0 L/100 km on the highway

- 11.2 L/100 km in the combined cycle.

The Carnival Hybrid is also available for the 2026 model year. It combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a hybrid system and consumes approximately 7.4 L/100 km in the combined cycle, according to EPA estimates. This is significantly more fuel-efficient than the standard V6.

Practicality is one of the Carnival’s main strengths. There is about 1,138 liters of cargo space behind the third row, and the maximum volume with the seats folded down reaches approximately 4,109 liters. Legroom is about 104 cm in the front, 103 cm in the second row, and 90 cm in the third.

Higher trim levels offer second-row VIP Lounge Seats with retractable footrests, heating, and ventilation. The Carnival also comes standard with 18 driver-assistance systems, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and collision-avoidance assist.

We previously reported that the EU is changing the rules for cars starting in November 2026: the new Euro 7 standard.

GMC Yukon XL – a large SUV for family trips

The GMC Yukon XL ranked sixth among the most heavily used gasoline-powered cars in an iSeeCars study. Its average annual mileage is 18,734 miles, or approximately 30,150 km—40.6% higher than the average for gasoline-powered cars.

The model seats up to 8 passengers and features three rows of seats. The main difference between the XL version and the standard model is its extended body. The maximum cargo capacity with the second and third rows folded down is about 4,100 liters, while there is significantly more space behind the third row than in the standard Yukon.

Several powertrains are available for the Yukon XL: gasoline V8s and the Duramax diesel. Depending on the version, the vehicle can be ordered with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The maximum allowable trailer weight for the Yukon family is approximately 3,810 kg, making the model suitable for RVs, boats, or large trailers.

In terms of dimensions, this is truly a large vehicle: the Yukon XL is about 5.72 m long. In the AT4 version, the maximum cargo capacity is rated at 144.5 cubic feet, and it can seat up to eight people.

The main drawback is fuel costs. According to iSeeCars’ calculations, due to its high annual mileage, the Yukon XL ranks among the models with the highest annual gasoline costs. In April 2026, analysts estimated these costs at approximately $4,664 per year based on U.S. fuel prices at that time.

The Toyota Sienna is the most fuel-efficient minivan in the ranking

In the iSeeCars study, the Toyota Sienna has an average annual mileage of 17,368 miles, or about 27,950 km. Unlike most of its competitors on this list, the Sienna is available only with a hybrid powertrain, which significantly reduces fuel costs.

The powertrain combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with electric motors. The system’s total output is about 245 k.s. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD) are available.

According to EPA estimates, the front-wheel-drive Sienna gets about 6.5 L/100 km in combined driving, while the all-wheel-drive version gets about 6.7 L/100 km. For a large family minivan, this is one of the lowest figures in its class.

The Sienna seats 7 or 8 passengers, depending on the trim level. The maximum cargo capacity is about 2,860 liters, with approximately 950 liters remaining behind the third row. In 7-seat versions, the second row can be equipped with individual captain’s chairs featuring a wide range of fore-and-aft adjustment.

Available features include power-operated sliding doors and a power-operated tailgate, tri-zone climate control, a multimedia system with a large display, up to 18 cup holders, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist.
