Many travellers always dream of visiting all corners of the world, but the choice of countries is important, especially due to the level of danger. According to the Independent, in 2024, the most dangerous countries are identified by the following categories: security, climate change, and medical hazards. The ranking is based on a five-level scale for security, climate change, and health. Before travelling, carefully study the risk map, which indicates dangerous areas, to ensure your safety and comfort during your trip.

List of the most dangerous countries in the world

The rating of the most dangerous countries includes:

1. South Sudan. The situation in South Sudan is characterized by ethnic and political conflicts, famine and humanitarian crisis. The constant struggle for power has led to numerous human rights violations, as well as numerous internally displaced persons and refugees. The low level of economic development pushes many citizens to extremism and crime.

2.Somalia. This country is known for its piracy problem in the Somali Basin. Illegal attacks on merchant ships have serious consequences for international trade and maritime security. In addition to piracy issues, internal conflicts, terrorism, and lack of stability create a challenging environment for those considering Somalia as a travel destination.

See the rules for entering Somalia in the checklist here.

3. Libya. The ongoing instability in Libya following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi's regime has created fertile ground for various conflicts. The fragmentation of power structures, the presence of armed groups and widespread terrorism make Libya one of the most dangerous countries in Africa.

4.Yemen. The humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen is caused not only by the armed conflict between government forces and rebels, but also by the low level of development and widespread famine. The hostilities have destroyed infrastructure and reduced the quality of life of the population, making Yemen one of the most dangerous areas in the world.

5. Syria. The civil war in Syria, which has been going on for several years now, has led to destruction, human suffering, and massive population displacement. The country remains an arena of clashes between various internal and external actors, creating a complex geopolitical environment. Terrorist organizations, such as the Islamic State, remain active in the region, deepening the threat to everyone in Syria.

6.Iraq. Iraq continues to suffer the consequences of conflicts, as well as the threat from terrorist groups, in particular the Islamic State. After the withdrawal of Iraqi forces from Syria, the likelihood of militants returning to their own territory has increased, creating new security challenges in the country.

7. Afghanistan. Afghanistan remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world due to security and political turbulence. The ongoing Afghan conflict, mixed with terrorist threats, makes the country particularly vulnerable. Problems with human rights, corruption, and low economic development also lead to a high level of insecurity for the local population and foreign visitors.

8.Ukraine. Ukraine is experiencing political and social instability due to Russia's armed aggression. Political contradictions, corruption, and low living standards have led to instability and numerous social problems. In addition, the eastern regions remain war zones, which creates a serious danger for those who intend to visit these territories.

The checklist will help you plan your trip to Ukraine.

The most dangerous countries for tourists in terms of security

In terms of security, Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Somalia are currently rated as the most risky with an extreme level of warning. The territories of Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Russia, and the Sahel are also marked by an increase in security risk, as are Ecuador and parts of Colombia due to rising crime and unrest. El Salvador and some regions of Nepal showed an improvement in security, according to the ranking.

Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland and Denmark are among the safest countries in Europe.

The most dangerous countries to visit in terms of medical safety

In this category, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, North Korea, Palestinian Territories, Haiti, Libya, Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Burundi and Somalia received a very high risk.

The most dangerous countries in the world for climate change

Countries with a high risk of climate change include Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Chad, Niger, Mali, Nigeria, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mozambique. These countries face serious challenges due to extreme weather and other climate anomalies.

While the UK is rated low in all three risk categories, its climate conditions are considered less dangerous. Nevertheless, it is important to remain aware and vigilant about climate change and take steps to live an environmentally responsible lifestyle.

Thus, in 2024, the above countries remain the most dangerous to visit due to political instability, military conflicts, humanitarian crises, and other factors. Such conditions jeopardize not only the safety of tourists but also the lives of the local population. It is important to be aware of and carefully study the situation in the country you plan to visit, and follow the recommendations of local and international organizations to avoid danger and negative consequences.
