An Egyptian D visa is required for a stay in Egypt exceeding a three-month period for various purposes, in particular when the patient is going to receive long-term treatment in a medical facility in Egypt.
A medical visa is valid for up to one year or the duration of treatment, whichever is less.
The validity of the specified visa will be limited by the validity of the medical test in the patient's medical report.

What is the step-by-step algorithm for obtaining a medical visa in Egypt?
Step I. Fill out the application form
The first step is to visit the Egyptian embassy in your country of origin and fill out the medical visa application form. After submitting the completed visa application form, you will need to register and undergo an interview. During the interview, the candidate will be asked about his medical trip to Egypt.
Step II. Documentation
Before applying, the applicant must ensure that he has documentary evidence of the urgency of the trip to Egypt. The purpose of the trip must be to receive urgent medical care or to accompany an immediate family member or employer for emergency medical care.
However, it is necessary to undergo a medical examination at least ten days before the scheduled appointment at the consulate. Failure to do so may result in processing delays.
If the applicant is not traveling alone, then everyone will need to schedule a separate interview.
Documents to be attached to the application form:
- Letter from a doctor describing the state of health and the reason for seeking medical help in Egypt;
- Letter from a doctor or hospital stating that they are ready to treat the case, with the approximate cost of the treatment indicated;
- Letter from a hospital/doctor recommending treatment in Egypt with details of the treatment and/or an invitation letter from a hospital in Egypt where the applicant wishes to undergo treatment;
- Copy of the latest bank statement as proof of the applicant's financial ability to bear the costs of treatment.
Step III. Pay the visa fee
Step IV. Get a medical visa
After all the above requirements are fully met, the applicant receives a medical visa, that is, if the Egyptian embassy approves the request, the applicant will receive a call or email notifying them of the visa selection at the embassy. If the Egyptian Embassy refuses the request for a medical visa, the applicant will be notified in writing stating the reason for the refusal.
A child born in the Arab Republic of Egypt must be registered with the local authorities (Maslahat Ahwal Madaniyya or AsSigel AlMadaniyy) within 14 days of birth.
To register a child, the following documents must be submitted to the authorities: marriage or divorce certificate; medical notice of birth (in case of home birth, you must contact the health department to obtain a birth certificate); mother's and father's passports or UNHCR registration cards (if they have refugee status); death certificate in case of father's death.
More detailed information can be obtained at https://help.unhcr.org/egypt/birth-certificates-for-newborns/.

In case of untimely registration, the parents will be held administratively liable, and the issue of obtaining a birth certificate for the child will be considered by a special commission in Cairo. The procedure for finding out the identity of a newborn involves an examination of the child by a doctor, who must establish its physiological age and find out the reasons for the delay in registration from the parents. This procedure can last up to three months. It is impossible to leave the territory of Egypt without a birth certificate. Only the father has the right to apply for the child's registration. The concept of "single mother" is not provided by law, so the birth of a child without a father in Egypt can cause big problems for a foreigner. To issue a birth certificate, state registration of the child and establish the child's citizenship of the parents, it is necessary to contact the consulate of your country in Egypt. It is usually necessary to submit to the consulate: a statement about the birth of a child; application for registration of citizenship; certificate from a medical institution about the birth of a child (translated into the state language); copies of parents' passports; a copy of the marriage/divorce certificate; receipt for payment of consular fees (if required).
But the so-called "right of soil", according to which a child born on the territory of any state automatically receives the right to its citizenship, does not work in Egypt.
However, if a person spent most of his time in the country after birth and before coming of age, he can expect to be recognized as a citizen. But only after coming of age.
