The island nation of Grenada offers one type of work permit, which is valid for one year. If an individual need to renew their work permit, they must re-submit the application three months before the documents expire. If the employee does not start this process in advance, he faces a fine.
Requirements for obtaining a Grenada work visa
When an employee applies for a work permit, they need a number of documents confirming their identity and origin:
- A copy of a valid passport
- Two photos with the size of the passport
- Police report from the applicant's country of origin
- Notarized certificates of qualification
- The invitation letter from the employer
It is important that candidates have already received a job offer from the employer's company before the process begins — they need a letter explaining the need for an international employee. Although Grenada encourages international investors, it prefers local residents to work on the island. You must have a good reason to hire a non-citizen.
Applicants must submit all necessary documents and a completed application form to the Ministry of Labor. The application process takes about two weeks, and applicants have a month to submit all the necessary documents to supplement their applications. Each form must be in English or translated into English and notarized. Individuals have 48 hours to submit payment for applications.
After your employee receives a work permit, they must present their documents to the Immigration Department along with their passport. The final confirmation will allow them to get started.
Visa features for obtaining a work permit
The country has different visa requirements for citizens of each country therefore, it is important to understand what employees need to enter Grenada. British citizens, for example, can enter the country without a visa for six months. Citizens of many countries in North America, South America and Europe can come to Grenada without a visa for three months.
It is also important to note that applicants cannot obtain a work permit if they currently have a visitor Visa. For citizens of countries that require a visitor visa, work permit applications must be submitted at the nearest consulate.
Citizens of the Caribbean community (CARICOM) do not need work permits to work in the country. Instead of applying for a work permit, Caricom citizens can present a Caribbean Skills Qualification Certificate or an equivalent document. The Caribbean Skills Qualification Certificate is a document/certificate that allows any qualified CARICOM citizen to travel and work in any member state with their family without any restrictions on immigration and work permits. There are three categories:
- Self-employed CARICOM citizens
- Companies and other organizational and legal forms of business organizations
