It can be obtained if you plan to study for no more than 3 months. If you plan to study for more than one semester, then documents are submitted for a D-4 visa.
D-2 study visa
Field of activity and conditions of issuance:
- Study or research in an educational, research institution with the accreditation level of a professional college or higher.
- Applicants who plan to get an education (full-time program: bachelor's, master's, doctorate) or conduct scientific research in an educational institution with the accreditation level of a professional college or higher.
The maximum visa validity period is 2 years.
The place of application submission is the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in the country of residence or the country of the applicant's last place of study.
Necessary documents
General documents:
- Visa application, passport copy, 1 photo. (Made in the last 6 months);
- University enterprise registration certificate (or identification number);
- Certificate of admission (issued by the university rector or dean).
A document of graduation from the last educational institution is required in the original (valid for 30 days from the date of reception), however, if necessary, it is possible to submit copies.
Graduates of specialized high schools that do not issue diplomas or certificates can present:
- A graduation certificate, issued by the Ministry of Education (municipal department of education), or even by the consulate of the Republic of Korea of the country of issuance of the document or
- A certificate/diploma of graduation from the educational institution issued by the Ministry of Education (municipal department of education).
However, documents issued by educational institutions in the Republic of Korea do not require certification.
Documents required for each program
Bachelor of a professional college, bachelor's, master's, doctoral studies.
- Certificate of the last acquired education;
- Documents on financial status (the amount needed to pay for education and accommodation for 1 year).
Research program.
- A certificate of the last education obtained;
- Documents on financial status (balance on the bank account, certificate of receiving a monetary reward for the research being conducted);
- A document on graduation from the last educational institution (master's degree and higher);
- A document on the expenses of the stay (a certificate from the bank about the availability of a deposit, confirmation of funding of research activities);
- Letter of recommendation from the dean of the faculty;
- A document confirming the status of an exchange student (an official letter from the inviting university, an official agreement on student exchange between universities);
- A document confirming that the student has attended more than 1 semester (certificate from the place of study).
Interns invited by the Ministry of Defense.
- Documents on the possibility of paying for accommodation (taking into account the pre-paid tuition fees);
- Letter of recommendation issued by the rector of the student's university;
- A certificate of the student's participation in the exchange program (Invitation from a Korean university, agreement between universities on student exchange);
- Certificate of completion of at least one semester (certificate of completion of studies issued by the student's university);
- Invitation letter issued by the Ministry of Defense.
Important! The list of the required documents may differ depending on the applicant. The Consulate’s officer has the right to demand additional documents in case of the necessity of confirmation of the goal of the visit to Korea, the legitimacy of the invitation, and the correspondence of the applicant to the conditions of an exchange program.
Long-term education visa D-4
The field of activity outlined by teaching or conducting research at D-2 status universities and other educational institutions:
- Learning the Korean language on language courses at a Korean university (D-4-1);
- Studying at universities with D-2 status and other educational institutions;
- Undergoing training in the field of technologies in state and public research institutions;
- Undergoing training (practice) or conducting research in enterprises that receive foreign investments or make investments abroad.
The maximum visa validity period is 2 years (language courses are 6 months). The place of application is the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in the applicant's country of residence or country of last place of study.
Necessary documents:
- Visa application, passport, 1 photo, commission fee;
- Certificate of registration of the university enterprise or a copy of the identification number;
- Certificate of admission (issued by the university rector or dean);
- Certificate of completion of training or of graduation from the last completed educational institution;
- Certificate from the place of study or graduation from the last educational institution is required in the original, but if necessary, a copy can be submitted after checking the original;
- Document on financial capacity (more than 10,000 American dollars).
Notable details:
※ Documents on financial capacity (certificate of availability of deposit, bank book, certificate of scholarship, statement of account operations) are required in original, however, if necessary, it is possible to submit a copy after checking the original (certificate of availability of deposit is valid for 30 days from obtaining).
※ Students who plan to enroll in foreign language courses, according to the International Education Quality Assurance System, must provide a guarantee to cover the costs of studying abroad when submitting documents (the guarantee can be obtained after registering with a financial institution that has a representative office in Korea).
※ When submitting documents confirming the parents' financial capacity, a birth certificate must also be presented.
