Who is entitled to receive a residence permit?
Residence permits are granted directly to both Arabs and foreigners born in Syria and spouses of Syrian citizens. You must apply for a residence permit through the Syrian Migration Board or its branch in the provinces.

If a residence permit card is lost or damaged, the cardholder must notify the Immigration Department in Damascus or another department within three days from the date of loss or damage to have it replaced with a new one.

Every Arab or foreign visitor who is over fifteen years of age and has been recorded in his parents' card must obtain his own residence permit. Arabs and foreigners with residence permits are not allowed to stay abroad for more than six months.
Who can get Syrian citizenship?
According to the Citizenship Law of the Syrian Arab Republic, a person can obtain Syrian citizenship if he:
- Lives in the country for at least five consecutive years before submitting the application. Interrupted residence is considered consecutive if there is no more than one year, which adds up to five years.
- He has no infectious diseases, ailments that could prevent him from working.
- Has good behavior and reputation, no criminal offenses or restrictions on freedom in connection with infamous crimes.
- Has specialization or experience that can be useful to the country;
- Can read and write Arabic.

Adult children of a naturalized father may be granted citizenship by order upon the submission of the Minister. The required period of residence is reduced to at least two years.
Citizenship is granted to the wife of a naturalized foreigner under the following conditions:
- The marriage must be valid for two years from the date of application.
- A woman must legally reside in the country for 5 years;
Minor children can acquire citizenship if their habitual residence is not outside the country and they have retained their father's primary citizenship in accordance with (ITS) governing legislation.
