What is a 2-year Dubai work visa?

A 2-year Dubai work visa is a type of visa that allows foreign nationals to work in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a specified period of time. The permit is issued by an employer who acts as the employee’s sponsor.

This permit has several important aspects:

1. Validity

A work visa is usually issued for 2 years, after which it can be extended if the employee continues to work for the same employer.

2. Procedure

To obtain this visa, you must have an official job offer from an employer in Dubai. The employer then applies for a visa for the employee through the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emigration (MOHRE) and the Dubai Department of Residency and Foreigners (GDRFA).

3. Medical Examination

Upon arrival in the UAE, the employee must undergo a medical examination to confirm their physical fitness to work.

4. Family Sponsorship

With this visa, employees can sponsor their family members, such as their spouse and children, to obtain a visa to stay in the country.

5. Rights and Responsibilities

Employees are only allowed to work for the employer who applied for the visa, however, after the visa expires, there is an opportunity to change employers if this is stipulated in the terms of the contract.

This visa is one of the main ones for foreign workers who want to work in Dubai and is an important element of the UAE economy, where a large number of expats from all over the world work.

Major updates to the Dubai work visa for 2025

- Visa renewal using AI (Salama system)

The new “Salama” system automates visa extension applications, significantly reducing processing times and minimizing bureaucratic obstacles for foreigners.

- Expanded eligibility for the “Golden Visa”

Professionals in fields such as teaching, healthcare, sustainable development and digital content creation are now eligible for a 10-year golden visa, which provides long-term residency for qualified specialists.

- Simplified application process

The application period has been reduced from one month to five days and the number of required documents has been reduced from 16 to five, making the process faster and more efficient.

- Simplified procedures for Indian nationals

Indian passport holders who meet certain criteria can now avail of the visa on arrival option, simplifying entry procedures and reducing the need for advance visa application.

- Added family sponsorship rules

Foreign nationals earning a monthly salary of AED 4,000 or more can now sponsor their spouses, children and even parents, expanding the possibilities for family reunification.
