Vaccinations: among the recommended ones for all travelers is the Hepatitis A, B. If you plan to eat outside of large restaurants and hotels, take care of typhoid vaccination. In the regions of Beni, Pando, Santa Cruz, and some places in Chukisaka, Cochabamba, La Paz, and Tariha, there is a risk of developing yellow fever. Yellow fever vaccination is also required to enter the country. Rabies vaccination is necessary for tourists who will spend a lot of time outdoors, where there is a risk of animal bites.
Rules of entry and stay
Bolivia's visa policy depends on the country you are from. The Government of Bolivia divides visa applicants into three groups. If you are from a country in the first Group (USA, EU, Australia, etc.), you do not need a visa to enter Bolivia for a stay of up to 90 days.
If you are from a group 2 or 3 country, you must obtain a visa before entering Bolivia, but visa requirements and the application process vary.
Entry to Bolivia with visa is for groups 2 and 3 countries. With a visa, you can stay in Bolivia for up to thirty days. You can extend a 30-day tourist visa twice for the same period. A visa to Bolivia can be issued at the Bolivian Embassy or directly at the border when entering the country. It takes 1 day to issue an urgent visa to Bolivia at the Bolivian consulate.
Documents required for applying for a visa to Bolivia:

- A photo of the passport with size “2 x 2”.
- A valid passport with a validity period of at least 6 months
- A copy of the hotel reservation or a letter from friends or family indicating the address where you will be staying, a sketch of the address, the current rental agreement, and other related ones. (If the invitation came from a family member or friend, it must be personal, an institutional invitation is provided for the visa of a specific object).
- Round-trip ticket or a copy of the travel itinerary.
- Economic solvency test. Bank statement. In the case of minors, the requirement of economic solvency will be the corresponding requirement of parents or guardians.

If you cannot access a Bolivian Consulate/Embassy, you can also receive a Bolivia Visa On Arrival at the Cochabamba, La Paz and Santa Cruz airports. However, the Bolivian immigration authorities do not have the most detailed information regarding how eligible applicants can receive their Bolivian visa on arrival. Although it is possible, the application process may not always be the same.
However, if your only choice is obtaining a Bolivia visa on arrival, then you must have all the required documents required for a visa with you .
You must also have the necessary cash (in US dollars) to pay the Bolivia visa on arrival fee. The bills for the visa fee have to be in good condition since the visa officers at the entry may refuse to accept them otherwise.
Such a visa is issued directly crossing the border: at the airport or at the border booth, if you come from a neighboring country by bus.
From the documents, the border guard can request the following:
- return tickets or tickets to a third country,
- international certificate of yellow fever vaccination,
- format photo of passport size,
- confirmation of the availability of sufficient funds for the period of stay in the country (cash or personal account statement).
The minimum amount of health insurance is 30,000 euros, but we recommend that you include points for extreme sports.
People of nationalities of Group I whose purpose is a tourist visit to Bolivia: no visas required.
A transit visa isn’t required for passengers with a confirmed ticket for a flight to a third country within 24 hours. They must be located in the international transit zone of the airport and have the documents required for their next destination.
To bring pets to Bolivia, you must follow the following procedures:
- A health certificate issued by a veterinarian, including rabies vaccination, made at least three months before the trip. A rabies antibody test isn’t required.
- The health certificate must be legalized and translated into Spanish.
Bolivia has no published list of banned animals.
An import permit is not required when entering Bolivia with personal pets.

Duty-free import is allowed:
- 3 liters of alcoholic beverages,
- 400 cigarettes, 500 g of tobacco or 50 cigars,
- reasonable amount of perfume for personal use,

The driver must present a valid native driver's license that has been used for at least 2 years. If your license isn’t in the language used in your destination country, or your license is not written in Latin, you must present an international driver's license along with your native driver's license. You must be at least 21 years old to legally drive on Bolivian roads.
