Employees who work in Bolivia for a short time can apply for a temporary residence or work visa, which is valid for 30 to 180 days. For a longer stay, a temporary residence visa is required, which is valid for one to three years. After three years of living in the country, employees can apply for permanent residence.

Application process

- Some employees decide to enter the country on a temporary residence visa and subsequently change their status through a lawyer. To do this, the lawyer must work with the Immigration Department to collect the necessary documents on behalf of the employee.
Foreigners who work legally in Bolivia have access to the country's social security system. Conclusion of an employment contract with a foreign employee is possible with the permission of the Ministry of Labor. Upon obtaining a work permit, the foreign citizen pays taxes and contributions to the Social Insurance Fund of Bolivia, which provide access to the country's social security system.
