If you are traveling to Mauritius, you will need the following documents:

- Valid passport (must be valid for at least 150 days after the day you plan to leave)

- Visa (some nationalities will need a tourist visa for Mauritius)

- Booked round-trip airline tickets

- Proof of booking or rental agreement for a hotel or other accommodation

- Proof of financial security for the period of stay in Mauritius

Visa to Mauritius: basic requirements and rules of obtaining

Depending on your nationality and purpose of travel, you may need a tourist visa to enter Mauritius. However, there are some countries whose nationals are exempt from visa requirements, are eligible to obtain a visa upon arrival, or apply for an e-Visa.

For citizens of countries that have a visa-free regime with Mauritius, the total period of stay in the country can be 90 days. 


A tourist visa to Mauritius can be obtained in two forms, depending on your nationality:

- a regular visa, a sticker in the passport document

- upon arrival at the checkpoint


Tourist visa issued by an embassy/consulate

Some countries are not eligible to apply for a visa upon arrival. Citizens of these countries need to contact their local Mauritius embassy or consulate to apply for a tourist visa.


The application procedure depends on the embassy or consulate of the country where you are applying for a visa.

1. Contact the nearest Mauritius embassy or consulate to make an appointment.

2. Fill out the visa application form, which is available at the embassy or consulate.

3. Prepare the necessary documents, pay the visa fee and submit the documents and the application form to the embassy or consulate.

4. Depending on the embassy or consulate, you may have to submit the documents in person or you may be able to send them by mail.

5. It takes an average of 5 business days to process a visa if all the required documents are submitted.

6. Pick up your passport (or have it mailed to you) with the visa stamped if your application is approved.


Documents required to apply for a tourist visa to Mauritius

- A visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant.

- Two recent passport-size photographs of the applicant.

- A photocopy of the applicant's passport data pages.

- A copy of the residence permit (to be submitted for applicants who do not reside in their country of origin). The residence permit must be valid for at least three months after the planned date of departure from Mauritius.

- A copy of the bank statement for the last three months.

- Hotel reservation for accommodation (if the sponsor is a Mauritian citizen, provide proof of sponsorship, a copy of the ID and proof of address)

- Health insurance policy 

- Booked round-trip airline tickets.


Please note that the Mauritian authorities responsible for visa issuance in your country of residence may require you to submit additional documents in addition to the above.


Visa on arrival in Mauritius

This is a single entry visa that allows you to stay up to 60 days after arrival. 

Holders of the following passports can apply for a visa on arrival, but their visa is valid for a maximum of two weeks: Algeria, Comoros, Madagascar, Myanmar, Nigeria, and Venezuela.


1. Upon landing at the airport in Mauritius, you will be provided with forms to fill out 

2. You will need to fill in the form and have your passport, ID card and cash to buy a visa (Visa on arrival in Mauritius may be free for citizens of some countries)

3.Proceed to the immigration control counter and the passport control officer. Here you must present your passport valid for at least six months after arrival, your travel itinerary and documents confirming your accommodation reservation.

4. After filling out the forms and paying the visa fee, you will need to go through immigration control, the immigration officer may ask you a few questions about your stay or the purpose of your visit. Questions may include: “Where are you staying?” “What is the purpose of your visit?” “How long do you intend to stay in Mauritius?” etc.

5. After passing immigration control, you will be stamped with an entry permit.
